With Collingwood out of contention in the AFLW league I have been following the Western Bulldogs women's team and went with Deb and Kath (a die hard fan) to the Victoria University Whitten Oval for the game on Friday night
|
mascots walked the track |
We arrived early and chose a spot on the grassy hill at midfield. The crowd gradually grew so by the time the game started at 7:10 it was crowded.

Th umpires practice lining up and checking wind direction! |
The mood was great with lots of kids and families as well the cheer squads.
|
A kids game wa son before the starts and their goal was in front of us |
|
It was so windy the goal post would not stand so they had to lay them down |
It was incredibly windy so everyone had to anchor their picnic rugs and belongings.
|
Our little spot was soon over run |
Behind us is the ramp to Gordon Street from Geelong Rd
As the game started the announcer said that Melbourne had won the toss and elected to kick to the 'Gordon St end" Its usually Barkly St or Geelong Rd. Gordon St is mid field.
While the players were fumbling around at one point in front of us I yelled 'forget the Gordon St end head for Barkly street!"

The Game started on time in windy 32 degrees

|
There were scrimmages |
At one point just in front of us a Bulldog girl made a half hearted sweep at the Melb player with the ball "Tackle her!" some of the crowd yelled
A few seconds later when another Melbourne player had the ball and the Bulldog player took her to the ground; the Roar was reminiscent of the Gladiators!!
|
This was her knee! |
A touch and go at 3/4 time and nail biting half of last quarter then Brooke Lochland No 1 kicked a goal in the last 90seconds
|
Nail biter final score |
A very satisfying and enjoyable night!
