The Francis family of Opossum Bay

This Christmas I went over to spend the time with Fran at Annemarie's and Michal's play in Opossum Bay South of Hobart This beautiful part of the coast is surrounded by beaches and the Francis' house is on a  cliff looking over the mouth of the Derwent River

the best of 2018

Some highlights of 2018 
  • Discovering the talent of the Surf Coast Shire Artists 

the garden art I got for my birthday 

  •  Court yard gardening and beauty of succulents 


  •  Turning my hand to different crafts and taking on challenges in knitting 

needle felting

  • getting involved in the Brooklyn neighbourhood Group 
One project was a mural on the laneway to Federation Trail

  • Street Art in the West was a surprise I thought I'd get about 20 pictures but stopped at 100

  • Supporting the AFLW league  We went to the inaugural game and then I joined the western bulldogs and went to a few games with Deb and Marie. What a thrill was their win!!

  • i also joined a Story Telling group A sub group of which are keen Kamishibai performers The traditional art of Japanese story telling

  •  discovering more of the  West after seeing an exhibition at NGV re the new Mosque built in Newport designed by Australia architect extraordinaire Glenn Murcutt

  •  Further local discoveries led me to the Challis Wetlands and the Newport Lakes as well as Cherry Lake

  • A highlight of the year was going on the Silo art trail with Jo   What an amazing collection of Art works Govt funding next year hopefully will see more in country towns so they can build infrastructure to support it

  • endless Gallery exhibitions to attend

  • And a bird watching tour to enhance my spotting and naming skills  

The Werribee treatment plant was a bird life heaven 
even saw the orange bellied Parrot (endangered)

  •  Seeing Dylan and Max growing up. Dylan into football.  Cold and chilly morning!!

His red hair and glasses make him hard to miss!!

  • A theatre experience and thrill for the year was the Pop UP Globe theatre performances 

Much ado about nothing was the best I've seen

  • I also tried my hand at Yarn bombing and covered a pillar in the courtyard Complete wiht leaves and branches

  • After my visit to Japan and a great day spent on Naoshima last year it was a thrill to see a Yayoi Kusama installation at NGV 
  • The flower room at NGV


    •  Although not planned I am back on the Yacht Club committee and hope to get back to sailing next season 

    perfect place to spend a summer day

    Pre Christmas celebration

    Traditionally the JB sailors, specifically JB33 Osprey Geoff Di and Sonia, host a prawn and champagne celebration on the beach 
    The day was sunny and warm after the tumultuous rain of the previous 2 days .

    A big turn out this year 
     usually its just the Jbs that come but this year there was a general club member attendance. GREAT

    Christmas Lights

    While Brooklyn Victoria is not on the scale of Brooklyn New York a local street is becoming  the for Christmas lights
    So we planned a walk along the few streets but a thunderstorm forecast and the pre-runner of rain had us in the car and walking
    Jordan in Eames Avenue is a real fanatic having over 5000 lights as well as some lovely boxes that he says he bought on line

    Some others are rising to the challenge but have a way to go!!
